Do you ever watch TV news? If you do, you are one of rare people who do. Now a days young Americans do not watch TV news. There are several explanation out there to explain why this is happening. Some says that young people are reading news online instead. True, but still, younger people tend to spend less time than adults even on online news. If you would like to know further, you can see numerous stats reports at Pew Research Center.

What people want

What are people looking for when they watch news? Well, obviously they are looking for the ‘news’. It could be local news that most likely impact them, or it can even be international news on War. But that’s not the ‘only’ thing viewers see. Have you ever wondered why there are people sitting in the desk talking about news? It’s because viewers wants to see the ‘presentation’ of the news. Not just fact. One of the presentations young Americans tend to like is the ‘entertainment’. Some old people may not want to believe, but people are seeking entertainment in news.

The Daily Show / The Colbert Report

You should have no trouble naming these two famous shows when you are asked to list your favorite entertainment news show. Yes, those shows offer ‘entertainment’ to the viewers. Instead of presenting the news fact as ends, these shows use news stories as means to deliver ‘fun time’ as ends. Does it work? Well, I’m sure you have many friends who loves these shows. Again, these shows are selling ‘entertainment’ rather than straight fact of the news.

Really informative?

Now, people are afraid of young Americans getting news information out of those shows. Apparently, these ‘fake’ news shows do not enhance the real knowledge of what is going on in the world. Perhaps those entertainment shows are only intended to sell ‘fun time’, but viewers are taking it as primary ‘news source’.

What is your product?

So what are you selling? You might be selling electronic device, gardening tools, or even just information. But those are just ‘means’ of product to sell something else. It can be convenience, or it can be sex appeal. If you want to be successful selling products, you should find out the intangible ‘value’ of your product.
